Neil

It's not often I practice by playing along with any anyone or other resource for that matter.
Mostly I feel I'm not familiar enough with any song I'm learning to keep up at any speed with out major errors,
which I feel would be nonconstructive too.

Do you think practice should always / sometimes be done along with some form of accompaniment be it person or software application?
OR
For at least X minutes practice dedicated to this type of practice during every practice session?

What would your advice be regarding my questions above to get best playing results?

Thanks

Dermot

you will develop better timing if you play along with something.

Guitar pro is very good to play along to because you can loop and section you want and play it at any speed that you want

I agree with Mark, You can use GP (when you find a good track) to loop a section that you have difficulties with , and you can use it for the whole song, ultimately you can play against the original song. I think that once you have memorized the song, you should always play against GP or the song because once you have memorized it , the only missing aspect is timing,

Hi Dermot,,you ask but I think you know the answer already....

When I start a new song I always first try to get a bit comfort with what is goin on in the measers,,just look at the tab and fret and pick out the notes/strings..

of course I followed the lesson first 'cos Neil has economic fingers so to say ,,don't know how to tell you that,,I mean its all logic while pickin the strings out in a sort of order..(when it is a fingerpickin song) ,,with strumming its all a bout keep the strumming hand moving,,or not,,sometimes you can slam on the strings or tic the guitarbody, but it is all in the music,,what i mean is, if there is a rest in music then you can slam the strings and so on....its all in the movement(s)

I don't get used to an metronoom(I get Mad),,so GPro is the one I use,,,you can set the tempo,,you can see the tab or notes,,you can do sections(or one measer)..you can put up a capo... and so oooooooooooooooooooooooon..

Playing in time is very important?? I think it is... but.................................

Willem

PS. keep playing on and on...

You have to practice smart. Use GuitarPro, it works! ;)

Short definition of music:

The right note at the right moment. I'm sure you've heard that one.

In my opinion the right moment is more important then the right note. When you play the wrong note or chord in a song, you can adjust or just forget about it, it'll be gone when you go on in time. When you mess up the timing, it'll be game over, I mean really OVER. Like my last video, I won't give up, at one point in the bridge I didn't land on the C-chord quite right (I adjusted), did you notice? I think not, but if I would have stopped or wait a moment to adjust, or play the beat again, trust me, éveryone would have noticed!!!!

Also playing along gives you a kick in the butt to keep up, like a muscle, if you want it to get bigger or stronger, make it lift a weight which it hasn't done before, trust me it wíll get bigger and stronger.

In any way no matter whát you're playing or how good you play it or how fast you play it, it's gót to be in time!!!!!

My two cents..
