Missed a lot in two days....

Jim: Another great share. The pick hand looked a bit more relaxed during the strumming this time! Plus you are still singing. Ahead of me man... What's up next???

Ness: I might be in love with you.... :silly: :silly: I have been toying with that song for a long while now, but can't get that sweet pick/strum you have nailed down. What a kick-butt cover!!!!! Loved the harmony vocals. Love those things! Tell me though, were there special classes you took as a kid to learn how to keep a killer smile the entire time you are singing???? Seriously.... ;) ;)

Kevin: I want to know what you "REALLY" have in the coffee mug I see on that desk of yours from time to time. You're whipping out the cool covers left and right.... :) Nice... B)

I can't speak for anyone else, but this thread has become a heck of a place to learn some campfire songs for this year's backpacking/camping trip. These are great old songs that can be played with mostly simple chords, especially if you just want to strum through them and have some fun. We are getting a nice library going here....

Love it.

Kevin, good job. A song we sing often in public around here when performing and you did it well.
One minor point though, it's "file' gumbo" (pronounced fee'-lay), not "filet of gumbo" (that's what it sounded like anyway; if it's not what you were singing I sincerely apologize.)
File' is ground up sassafras leaves used to add flavor and thicken gumbo, usually added to one's bowl as you begin to eat it. Odd coincidence, but I had a bowl of gumbo today (yes I added some file') for lunch! First time in a couple of months I've had any. Being 3/4 Cajun (that's the polite term) I LOVE good gumbo! Aaaiiiyeee!

Good job on a favorite song in this region. BTW I noticed you were wearing a Longhorns shirt. Hook-em!

Jerry

EDIT: Sorry, Kevin, I just went farther back and noticed you had posted the words. You did have written "file' gumbo. If any one is interested in a third verse:

Settle down far from town, buy me a pirogue
And I'll catch all the fish in the bayou
Swap my mon to buy Yvonne what she need-o
Son of a gun we'll have big fun on the bayou.

For the foreigners (that's outside Cajun territory), a pirogue (pronounced pee-row) is a small, flat bottomed boat, common in the swamps in Louisiana. Enough teachin', sorry.

Vanessa, another powerful video. The harmonies are excellent. I particularly enjoyed the strumming. Chords are important for the voicing but strumming defines the song. those constant hammer-ons were very "upbeating".

Kevin I do not know what was was in that mug you drank on the video, but you seemed in a particularly good mood. Really enjoyed your performance.

Edit: just noticed that Jason made the same comment about the coffee mug so I am not imagining things :)
