Cori / Krista,

Very nicely done. Nice playing and really great vocals.

Thanks for sharing

Nice job you two! Enjoyed the playing and singing. Thought Krista might put on a big blonde wig for that one!

Guys, that was really cool. I've always loved that song and have huge respect for Dolly Parton who is not only an amazing singer but a hugely talented songwriter as well. Krista sure did the vocals justice- I had a big smile on my face during that last "Joleeeene" that goes up so high! Cori, I really liked how you tried to work in that signature riff to the song. I know this is a busking thread and not a song for review, but if I could make a small comment I'd recommend that you just play the riff at the beginning and end of the song and then just strum some simpler rhythm guitar-type strums throughout the rest of the song. I think it would meld better with the vocals- and make the riff pop more when you do play it.

Krista and Cori,

That was fabulous singing (love it, love it, love it) and some fancy picking (smokin'). Good fun.

I have to agreed with Suzi. Great suggestions Suz. I think the repeating riff is throwing the timing out a little. If you simplify it a bit that could be the trick to making it simply awesomer (to quote Tony). :) it's already cool.

You two are such a great team. I love your work.

Dolly is a legend and so are you two!

Woo Hoo!

Holy crap! That was really, really good and very fun to watch. Cori, your playing is fluid and excellent, and Krista you have the voice of an angel. Plus, this song perfectly suits your voice. As a testament to how much I like this performance, I've watched this video multiple times, something I don't even do with my own videos.

That was some fine pickin' and singin'!

I think about that song a lot. We have a newscaster here in Oklahoma City named Jolene and she probably could take some woman's man. Knowwhutimean?

As part of one of the recent sub-themes, here is 3 chord song of language. This is Guantamera, a song from Cuba. The chords are G C D7. I remember learning the poem (if not the song) in a high school Spanish class.

PLEASE NOTE: If video was recently uploaded it will not work yet. YouTube will need a little more time to get the video ready. Please check back again soon.

Yo soy un hombre sincero
De donde crece la palma
Y antes de morirme quiero
Echar mis versos del alma
Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera

Mi verso es de un verde claro
Y de un carmín encendido
Mi verso es un ciervo herido
Que busca en el monte amparo
Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera

Con los pobres de la tierra
Quiero yo mi suerte echar
El arroyo de la sierra
Me complace más que el mar
Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera

I am a truthful man
From where the palm tree grows
And before dying I want to
Pour forth the verses of my soul

My verse is bright green
And it is flaming red
My verse is a wounded stag
Who seeks refuge on the mountain

With the poor people of the earth
I want to cast my lot
The brook of the mountains
Gives me more pleasure than the sea

Cori / Krista,

fantastic, someone had the giggles though? :P

Great picking and Krista the singing was just so easy for you. I liked your arrangement and delivery. :)

Good stuff! Looking forward to your Little Red Riding Hood rendition. :P :)

A definite improvement on your strumming Jim. Your right hand was more fluent and you are happy strumming as you change chords. Well done!
