Taylor's are known for sounding really good right out of the box. But be careful judging any guitar by how it sounds in the guitar shop. Many guitars change their sound dramatically after they are played for awhile and "mellow".

I'm a big fan of Taylor but a few years ago I had Larrivve make a custom L-10e with an Englemann top and Indian rosewood sides. Tons of "bling" but it sounded terrible. I was so disappointed waiting 6 months for my new guitar and having it sound just dead. Worse, I couldn't return it because it was custom.

Well, after about a year it started to change it's sound and it kept getting better and better. After 2-3 years it sounded spectacular! If I had played this guitar in a shop I would have put it back immediately. Now you'd have to kill me to get me to give it up!! Just be aware that guitars do change over time.

Happy playin'
