Songs to focus on
Neil, I have been playing for about nine months now. I would classify myself as a low level intermediate player. I was taking lessons but felt I could advance just as quickly with online resources myself. Thanks for your site, I am saving money and learning more! I am strugglling with songs and do not know where to start with all the ones you have lessons for. I do well with Melissa, but would like to be able to play more in depth songs with more interesting parts like the notes in ripple for example. Are there some songs from your lessons that I should focus on at this time. I do good with songs that are just strumming but would like to advance my picking which I struggle with currently. Thanks for your time! Andy

If I may offer an option- I'd check out the Student Review section. I've seen more than a few songs that I either didn't know or hadn't considered trying before. For some reason, seeing someone else's take on a song makes me want to try it out as well.
Just a thought.

I agree with Al above. Many of us are probably at a similar level as you and you can see what songs the rest of us tackled. If Melissa is something you enjoyed learning and playing, I'd suggest learned Heart of Gold and The Needle and the Damage Done. Both are Neil Young songs and in my opinion are must learns for beginner/intermediate types. Good luck.

hi Andy (the second),, i agree with Reiver here,,you get two diffrent kinds of picking that you can use in other songs,,when you do ''the house of the rising sun,,,you can also give then a go to ''hallelujah'' (Leonard Cohen) the travis picking leads you to many other fingerpicking songs .. i find that the house!!! is a must!! Also ''black bird'' Beatles.... .. good luck and looking fowards to your studentreview/video's, also a must..If you're trying to focus on fingerpicking, have a go at House of the Rising Sun, straightforward chords and easy pace. Dust in the Wind will introduce you to travis style picking which is an important technique to master.

Hey Scooby- welcome to the program! We're really glad you joined us!
Could I ask you to slide over to the Please Introduce Yourself thread and tell us a little about yourself? Where you live, how old you are, your musical tastes, what level player you are, that kind of stuff. we've all done it and it's great to know more about each other.
Regardless of your playing level this is a great site with tons of material, being added weekly and some really great people. If we can ever help you with anything, don't hestitate to ask. You'll probably get more help than you can possibly use!
Good luck on your musical journey and Cheers! :cheer:
