I have had Dropped-D Tuning on my radar lately, mostly due to an upcoming lesson that I talk about near the end of today's Update, and I play some of Ladye Nothinge's Toye Puffe by John Renbourn and Jorma Kaukonen's Embryonic Journey. At the start though, I played a bit of Dear Prudence and explained its fingerpicking pattern. There was also talk on the 3X3 practice approach - essentially a few minutes (3 to 5) 3 times a day. Studies show that the brain is more receptive and alert in short increments.

A couple messages crossed my desk this week that brought up my philosophy and strategy with respect to chords over words in charts. I am sure most of you know my take on that but it has been quite a while since I addressed it here at TG. I would love to hear people's thoughts on the subject, but nothing can convince me that it is a good idea.

We are working on expanding the jazz section at TG and there was a short plug for a workshop my friend Robert Witmeyer is doing at Keith Holland's Guitar Hospital here in Los Gatos on June 14. It is limited to 10 students but if you are within driving distance of us, you should check it out. Info coming in an email soon.
