Yes, mostly. D-D-U-D-U-D-U. I think there is a half measure or two in there somewhere which would use D-D-U.

I just cannot get it right.

I watched the video with Neil over and over but I just cannot get it.

I finally settled on a DD DUDU strum.

The trick is to not do it at Neil's speed -- slow it way down until it becomes comfortable, then gradually pick up the pace until you can play it at normal speed without having to think about it.

To do DD DUDU, you need to break the rhythm. D-D-U-D-U-D-U gets you there with constant motion. To make sure, I just played along with Neil's video. D-D-U-D-U-D-U. That is in fact the Rock Pattern, so you have it right, just keep your strum at a constant speed. Think of it as controlling the pattern by contact as the strum goes by at a constant rate.
