Camera Angle Question

Hi Neil -

I didn't want to post this in the forum, because I really like what you are doing with the site and did not want this to be taken the wrong way. I am really having difficulty translating the finger positions on some of the lessons. I was working on Angie the other night and never could get it right. I ended up getting more use out of the tab than the video. I know that you said that you wanted us to learn to translate the fingerings from a straight on shot, but I am finding it to be real difficult. Have you given anymore thought to having another camera angle?

I know that lessons on video can't be as clear as a live lesson in the studio so I'm glad the TAB is getting the job done. Everybody learns things differently and it can be a matter of finding what works best for you, as well as adapting to standard techniques. I have some students that can't get much from the TAB but get the picture by watching my hands closely. I have others that can't read a chord diagram. Many times I reach over and move people's hands or fingers to the right position.

I still don't believe an over the shoulder angle is a good thing for most people, as I have never had a student get out of their chair and look over mine. Any other thoughts from anybody about angles that seem best?

I've seen videos both ways, I prefer the straight on view as you've been doing, as it most mimics being in person, but I find I can think the other way too.

I like it the way it is. When I play with friends and they show me songs, chords, riffs, etc. that's how they show me. I don't get up and look over their shoulder. If I did they might not want to show me any more songs.
