Are we talking about a guitarist who just made music in the '70's or does it include careers spanning the 60's, 80's, and 90's too?
For guitarists who were popular in the 70's I'd say for me: Johnny Winter, Keith Richards, Billy Gibbons, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Duane Allmann, and throw Leo Kottke in as well for acoustic. That narrows it down, huh?
Oh, and Mick Taylor, Jimi Hendrix (last album 1970 right?), Martin Barre, Steve Howe, blah, blah, blah...
