How about a cover that's BETTER than the original!

I liked Counting Crows' version of 'Big Yellow Taxi'.
Again- not better than Joni's- just different.

I have a couple more for you all. I'll probably get some grief over this first one but I found Devo's cover of Satisfaction to be one of the most original covers I'd ever heard and is purported to be Mick Jagger's favorite. The studio version has a really funky groove. And for our next selection, Vanilla Fudge's version of You Keep Me Hanging On. Very heavy, especially for the day and age.

I just saw your link to this tune in the Zep Group. Very cool.

I bought the album when it came out, found that song on it, and was very pleased. I have a partial tab for the intro, and it is pretty easy. Another one that I know a small part of. Man I would happily trade in several of my partial songs to get the remaining portions of some of the others. Is that legal??????????????????

No substitute for practice..........

WOW! Tim Hardin would be proud of that version! That's one of my favorite songs and Plant just knocked it stiff! Such a simple tune but Plant made it come alive!

Great post!

Another log for the fire. Santana's Black Magic Woman. He so owned that song that I'd say that the majority of the public still doesn't know that it's a cover.

Hey Cabro,

Good posts! Although I do apologize that I haven't gotten around to giving you grief over your 'Devo pick' yet.. :)

Thanks Al. I appreciate the kind words. About the Devo thing though. I stand by their version of Satisfaction. I think it took some rather large cajones to take an iconic song like that and do what they did with it. I'm just surprised I haven't caught any flack over it yet. If you haven't heard it, I think the studio version deserves a listen.
