Many Many Moons Ago there was a boy born in the big city of Afton Wisconsin. He grew upon a farm doing the usual chores (feeding cows, shoveling sh#@, making cheese, etcc..) Joined the Marines to see the world, got wounded on his first deployment. Came home entered a apprentiship program for HVAC, got married and lived happily everafter as a heating guy. No kids just springer spaniels for hunting. Picked up my old guitar last winter to play some christmas music then found Neil on the net, have not put it down and learning a lot. Thanks Neil and everyone else here ! By the way Bear us Wisconsinites are not as liberal as you think, only on the surface.

Just joined this week. From Toronto Canada. Re learning to play ( played when I was a teenager into my twentys). Now in my 40's and into acoustic playing. I have a Takamine and a Simom and Patrick. Been at it for just over a year and want to get into finger picking.( tips welcome . So far the site has been great.

Are you looking to get into Travis picking (pattern picking) or fingerstyle playing? I'm a big Travis fan and love the old folk songs that use it. Neil had some good starting pointers for this type of picking on the TG Live tonight I thought.

I'm joe, been on here for a few months now, probably time I should introduce myself.
I'm 39, living in Sunderland, in North East England ( its famous for building ships, and not much else), with my wife Laura, we've been together 4 years and married for 1 year.
I've been playing since I was in my early teens- my dad taught me the basics, and in that time I've had many many guitars and amplifiers-I now call it a long term experiment- working out what I did and didn't like, I now have what I like.
Gear wise, I currently have Yamaha APX500 acoustic, as bought for me by my wife, a 1984 Tokai Goldstar Sound Strat Copy, a 1983 Fender Super Champ (one of the Paual Rivera built ones). My dad also has a few guitars, which he doesnt play much, and I can have whenever I want, he has a Session 75 amp, and a Squire JV series strat from the early 1980's. Throw in a Korg multi-effecs unit when I want to make wierd noises and this little lot gives me all the sounds I could ever want.
I found TG by accident, and its one of the best accidents I've ever had. I'm playing guitar more now than I ever did, and I'm even starting to get to grips with my nemesis tune..Classical Gas, its haunted me for years, and little by little, I'm getting there.

Hi Joe! Thanks for introducing yourself! Glad to have you! I don't know that part of England very well. I spent some time in Newcastle (on Tyne?). Is that very close to you? I was heading up to the moors in Scotland! Starkly beautiful country.

Hi Joe, Welcome to TG its a great place to be, I am an ex pat living in NZ from Carnoustie a little bit further North of Tyne and Wear. I do recall Newcastle Brown Ale though, was that your local brew?. Great to have you aboard.
