I think Streets of London is a great song. Sadly as relevent today as it was in the 70s.
I'm not a great Fairport convention fan. I like Meet on the ledge, sloth and one or two others.
I've been to their annual festival at Cropredy a few times.[/quote]
Hi Mark,
I'm green and its nothing to do with frogs, its with envy, you've been to Cropredy a few times, I've seen Fairport live twice but never at the Hallowed ground. Sloth is brilliant but If you like Meet On the Ledge check this version out by Fairport. Sorry audio only

Hi all
My name is Rick
Im 41 live in Lincoln UK ( that's near Robin Hood's Place)
And I'm an alcoholic.....Opps sorry wrong story..lol
No sorry, always joking brought/dragged up on carry on films and British comedy.
Day job EMT (ambulance)
Passion is of course the guitar
First picked one up about 12 years ago
A friend taught me the open chords and a few licks, 1 tune, Hey Joe
Then I moved so no more lessons
I played them for the next year then got bored.
Thought I would not improve any more, so played a few times a year, the same licks and Hey Joe ( Boy can I play that one tune!!!!)
Just over a year ago I herd a tune on the radio thought it sounded within reach (Norwegian wood) found a few versions on youtube, 1 being Neil's
that led me to Totally Guitars, poor site, very difficult to navigate but signed up as it was obvious Neil was an outstanding teacher.
There were hints that the site was to improve so i waited.
Then Totally Guitars was reborn, more orginised and brill, plus all free, yes result.
Then came hints of something special in the pipeline ? we speculated what it could be ?? lessons ?? subscription ?
Then it arrived, TARGET, I signed on the dotted line during the live event announcement.A bit miffed at the time as the free lunch was over,
But that feeling was short lived once I discovered how much I got for such a small outlay,I cannot imagine life without Target now.
The inspiration wow, How I wish this had been available 12 years ago.
The forum what a blast, so much help available, the guys on there are solid gold,
I've never been one for chat rooms, I don't even have MS Messenger, but this forum is addictive.
Just watch out for the pirates/hijackers, they may disguise themselves as cuddly puppets, but we know who they are!
I went through the beginner lessons ok
At the moment I'm practicing Barre chords and Neils preferred fingering for G, A and
must stop using the baseball grip!!!!
it's hard to change bad habits!!! but I'm getting there working them into Hey Joe, lol.
So thank you Totally Guitars

Hi RicksPick, I know you've been around awhile but great story man, so similar to alot of us really. Yeah and I know what you mean about those Pirates and cuddly puppets just no escaping them really. So we can now add an Outlaw in green tights to our merry little band...
Great to have you along for the ride and the view, speaking of which a cool song with that title The Ride and the View by Welsh band 'Man' you may have heard of them they are big in Germany but a legend in their own minds in Wales:
http://www.manband.co.uk/audio/index.htm
You need to scroll down for the link to the song.
Cheers

Hi Chasplaya
That link is actually for Matty Groves(I think that's what it's called)
Here's Meet on the ledge
Fairport have always been a bit traditional for my liking, but definately did a few classics

Welcome Dan and Rick to the forums. Carry on Picking Rick! Your stories are so much like many of our stories, so welcome home! Rick, I know Lincolnshire and especially the A17 well. Flattest place in GB. I resent your Muppet remarks, which are totally accurate!

Big oops there I got it wrong, but thats cos i'm obsessed with that version of matty groves that sets them apart from straight traditional, shows the different line ups evolution
