We have to have the oils in this thread and again, a brilliant song with lyrics that transcend time:

These guys were unique. James Reyne the frontman was pretty much indecipherable on occasions:

A great Australian song from a guy who never achieved the fame his talent promised (IMHO):

To kick this off..I will start with Cold CHisel
Cold Chisel have always had a special place in my heart for all the wrong reasons.

When in Sydney 2006 we were enjoying our new years eve in a pub with a guy playing guitar and singing. He was brilliant and really had the crowd in his hands.
However occasionally he would play something which had all us English boys looking at each other and saying "what is this, this is awful".
Our enquiries always led to finding out it was cold Chisel.

In the interests of balance, this is my favorite Aussie band - Jet

Great idea for a thread. Here's my vote for Australia's Gordon Lightfoot: John Williamson

Mark that's a consistent opinion in my experience. Cold Chisel are an Australian legend but their music is not appreciated outside of this country at all. When they tried their luck in the States as all rising bands do they were shown the door really quickly by American record executives. They wrote this song about the experience:
