Hi Reiver this is great you could see "La bottine souriante" (the smiling boot). I saw them many times. The beat is really uplifting and you just want to stand up and start dancing. They are really versatile singing traditional song and using many instrument (the video you have is a capella and they have a few like that). The tall guy in the back middle of the picture is the one keeping the beat with his feet on that resonance board. I saw him playing violin and harmonica at the same time and still keeping an ultra fast beat with his feet. Some people don`t have problem walking and chewing gum.

You probably saw them 6-7 years ago as the last time I saw them they were coming back from the UK.

Someone put Bruce Cockburn in a list earlier. He deserves his own entry.
And this song deserves to be considered for TG (imho) :)

Sorry I missed this - away for the weekend with limited internet access.

I just looked up the dates, they played in '97 and '99 at the celtic festival - they kicked up a storm. I think that it was public demand that saw them invited back in '99 to headline on the Sat night. Saw a group called Genticorum at the Cambridge Folk fetival this year - same style but only three of them - who also went down very well with the festival crowd.

Thought this the appropriate thread to post this. I played Jowi Taylor's brain child guitar named the "Voyageur" yesterday.. What an absolute privilegde and treat. If you are Canadian (or not) and you play guitar (or not) the "Six String Nation" story is inspiring to say the least.
I was surprised that it sounded so good.... Was not expecting it to probably be the nicest sounding acoustic I have ever played.
Other notable Canaucks, like I am one  that have played this instrument:
Gordon Lightfoot
Bruce Cockburn
Barnie Benthall
Stephen Fearing

"The New Pornographers" Interesting name I must say but great music. Really liked it Suziko I think I'll look them up and see what else they have.
