Hi Niel, before I found your site I started learning "If You Could Read My Mind" and love it. The problem here is that the instruction teaches the rythm guitar part and the lead part. Now, try to play them by yourself and sing to it!!!! Would love to get this instruction from you. I have been enjoying your teaching, but just getting started on the site. Was trying to finish learning this song first, now after hearing a guy on u tube play it (rezfern) I really want to chuck what I learned and learn to play it solo as my goal is more oriented to sing and play solo.

Anyway, can you break this song down?

Thanks, Mark

Mark- I'm working on that song as well. I have a really nice tab that I can send you if you PM me your email address! I've sent it to several other members with good results! It's a pretty basic, although not easy, fingerpicking version. If you like the song it's worth having in in your tab file!

Cheers! :cheer:

Mark- by the way, I don't hink we've welcomed you to the program! Big welcome from Oregon. Could I ask you to go over to the Please Introduce Yourself thread, start a new one, and tell us a little about yourself? Where you're from, how old you are, what your musical tastes are and where you are on your guitar journey. We've all done it and it's painless!

Anyway, if you ever need anything please let us know. Make sure to join the Gordon Lightfoot group, there's some more good info there.

Good luck! Cheers! :cheer:

Welcome Mark to the forums! This is the second good post I've seen from you this morning. If you Could... is my all time favourite song. I play and sing it often. I'm sure that when you have the playing down that the phrasing will fall in to place a it is very distinctive. If you listen to this Youtube of GL doing it live you will hear it very well. Not his best singing as in terms of his voice but you hear the phrasing better.

Thanks for posting that video Chris. Even after all of the surgeries and his stroke, you can still get a glimpse of that once great Lightfoot voice. I admire him for continuing to perform.

Didn't hear about the stroke Bill just about the internal bleeding which put him into a coma for 6 weeks. Yeah it's all taken its toll but he will keep going to the end... that's a great way to live a life.

Yeah. I saw it. It was awesome. It makes me want to take singing lessons. If that song became a Target Song, I'd drop everything to learn it.
