Al's last suggestion sounds like it is a way to make this happen and everyone who wants to can be involved. I guess I would suggest Harvest Moon mainly because it has such a haunting & great melody and lyrics. It seems like a good one to start with basic guitar chords and start filling in as the ideas and recordings come in. I like Heart of Gold but I really like the Drop D tuning and swing time of Harvest Moon better. I guess we should settle this issue at this point so we can move down the list. I think rather than rely on posts on the walls maybe we could just have a quick vote on say our 1st then 2nd pick and chose from there. If there is no major disagreements w/ this process start, then I will vote, for 1st pick Harvest Moon 2nd would be Melissa as our Neil sings and plays it. Tovo would you do the favor of counting and letting us know the final choice of song, please, & Wandoctor thanks for volunteering to do the recording aspect. This may require helping a few of us understand how to use some of the software or programs needed to transfer our recordings. Gary

That's cool Garry I'm happy to take votes on the song and agree that's the logical 1st step. After we settle on the song we probably need to allow time for people to learn it, and maybe get a heap of people posting it for review, that would be cool as well. Can I have a first and second choice from those interested in this please?

OK I would go for:

1. Heart of Gold. I reckon the harmonica will be a great addition.
2. Harvest Moon. Another good choice I think.

This will be a great learning experience for all of us, I would think. I like the Heart of Gold idea since it is a simple song to play in terms of rhythm, has a harmonica part, and percussion could be added if someone were so inclined, etc. Melissa is also a great song, and may be useful as our second project (not to get ahead of ourselves) since there is ample opportunity in that song for a lead guitar/solo sort of thing. So my vote would be to stick with Heart of Gold for a first run at this.

One other thought that I just had was that perhaps it might be easiest to complete a first project with audio only. No video. It might make things simpler as we learn the in's and out's of a trans-global effort such as this. Ideally, we could complete a video project of some kind, but given that most of us are new to this sort of endeavour, maybe an audio only first effort makes sense. Just a thought. I am certainly OK with a more ambitious video effort if everyone is in agreement and thinks we can pull it off from a technical standpoint. For the record, I think we could, but it would require more trial and error.

That gets my vote too as I have said on Tony's walls.
We can do both, in that order. Once we get the first done, the second will be easier. Looks like I come in after Rhythm and guitars tracks are laid down. I will be away over Christmas but back on 29th, so can do that any time then.
As I understand it R.c an do the harmonica... maybe willem can double up with him.

Let me know when I have to order my Evian water bath and caviar! ;-)

I laugh with nearly every post of you and Reiver. Let's stay on topic, though. Sorry....

Traveling Wilburys.. "End of the line' a lot of parts to play, vocals and guitars and drums. I don't know how to put the youtube video on, or I would. Take a look and check it out.

I'd vote 1. Heart of Gold, 2. Harvest Moon (assuming we're sticking mostly with those two choices). Heart of Gold is an easier song, and right now it seems to me that just figuring out how to coordinate this is challenging enough. Throwing a relatively tough song on top of that might be too much. And someone who's a more advanced guitar player (Neil? Chas? Mark?) could always add in a solo if we want to gild the lily.

Harvest Moon would be cool at some point, though, because the harmonics (NOT harmonicA)could be added in by a second player, which would be really nice as it seems like an almost essential part of the song, but it's hard for one player to manage (or at least it was for me!)

I'm flattered Suzi, not quite that league IMHO

This is a really cool idea Tony! Karma to you.

I'm interested too. I'm not sure I'll really be able to contribute, but I'm keeping my mind open to it just in case.

I don't know either of the Neil Young songs. But, I've just broken my thumb nail clean off (ouch - it was about 1.5 cm long or so and was finally perfect for finger picking). Now my bass notes sound pathetic. While it is growing back-in I've decided to focus on my strumming and using a pick in general. This could be a good opportunity to have a go at the two songs you guys are thinking of experimenting with.

I just watched Willem's present to us all (beautiful and thanks Willem) and I finally get the broom reference. I also have to agree with Suzi that Harvest Moon is a beautiful and romantic song.

Bill thanks for the video post too - I loved it and have been singing it all morning, including while walking around the supermarket. It put me in a great mood. Must visit New Orleans some day.

So one door closes ...

Should be a lot of fun.
