My vote for best male vocalist of all time. Considering he was a smoker and an alcoholic, it's amazing he could hit the notes with such purity:

And the best female vocalist? It was a tough call between Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, and this wonderful lady:

Sorry but with greatest vocalist.. What does that exactly mean? The man with the greatest voice for me is James Hetfield :-)

Gotta go with Wiley on Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli. While he was posting the video, I was watching the same one on YT.

Just a comment. When someone asks me about the best I have seen I generally ask, "in which category?" Styles are so different as are musical tastes. I don't think you can really compare Bocelli and a country artist for example. Not a criticism just an observation.

Female Vocalist my vote goes for Ann Wilson of Heart
I would vote her sister Nancy for best female guitarist

Now just because both Geoff Tate and Ann Wilson are local thats not why I like them.

I actually agree with your comment. In you example I would like a good country singer more than an opera singer.
You could also say that(not my opinion) the voice that sold best is the best voice...

..That being said I disagree with my own opinion. It's not only the voice that sells... oops

The original thread which kicked this off was male rock singer - which helped narrow it down.
