Stuart, PM me your Email again and I will send you the corrected MIDI. Importing into GP messes with it a bit. I've fixed my copy.

Andy can you please send the most recent file to me as well? I know Chris has my email address. Let me know if you need it. Thanks.

I actually have 2 versions of the MIDI. The one Chris sent me with Pianos that I added the metronome to and the one I modified to Guitars with a metronome. Chris prefers the Piano version. He feels that it is easier to hear the beats in it. (Correct me if I'm wrong here Chris please.)

I mixed the guitar version so it would be easier to follow the strumming patterns. No strums on a piano. I really would rather Chris hand out the files since he is doing the coordinating on this. I'll make sure he has both versions and you can get them from him. I sent Stuart one because his was corrupted.

Thanks Stuart and Andy. Mark, we'll get the final midi file up soon but the one that is there is o.k. to learn from. We'll be using the improved on for the recordings.

Andy is correct, I thought the midi file with piano track was much easier to follow for singing and playing guitar.... I find the midi guitar sounds really crappy and not helpful. I can actually copy the piano sound much better than the midi guitar sound. Another reason I think the piano track is better is that we need to replace that with a new guitar track, so listening to this near original is the best way to do that... the midi guitar sound murders it. IMHO! ;-)

Tempo is 74 bpm.

Hey guys. I could have PM'd Chris but wanted this public. I have gotten really popular at work and the demands there are keeping me from my part of the collaboration, at least for this week. I have it all - I just haven't done my part. Keep moving forward and if I can still contribute, I want to. But don't want to hold up the process. So if you have to replace me to get this done, no problem. Izzy

STATUS REPORT ON THE ELTON JOHN COLLABORATION

Hi Guys and girls!
Stuart has been working on the basic guitar track and Andy and I have been trying to nail the midi track to use as our reference and metronome. Stuart will make a few adjustments for us. We will be at 74 bpm, not too slow, not too fast. As soon as Stuart has the basic track finished (he's away on business this week), we'll upload it here for everyone to use. Joe has packed out his E guitar and will be looking at what he can add.
No worries Izzy if you are busy at the moment (glad to hear you are in demand!).

After the basic track is here, Gary, Ric and I will record the lead (separately) and we'll see how we mix that. At that point the harmonies and oohs and aahs can be added by our vocalists.

Also, and after the basic track is here, all the guitarist can do their thing. I hope you are all practising like mad and feel at home with the song already.

So, on the time line, I hope we can post the basic track by Sunday (o.k. Stuart?) and add the vocal lead by the next weekend. Then we have another 4 weeks or so where folks can add their thing. Then we we ship everything to Andy's Hawaiian Heaven Studios for the killer mix. We'll write a note to Andy's boss to let him off work for a week to finish the job! That sound good to y'all?

Chris ;-)

Sounds OK to me.

In the piano (midi) version the bass line is split between the piano and the bass guitar. Since we will be doing this without a piano, I will try to fill out the bass a little more and take on some of the piano left hand.

Sorry to say, I haven't been practicing this much. But as soon as you post Stuart's track, I will get onto to it.

David

That's great David! Of course, I forgot to mention in the last post that David will be adding the bass as soon as the basic track is done. GREAT!

Hello All,

Just returned from my business trip. I found a bit of time to work on this while I was travelling and expect to have a track ready by Sunday. I will aim to make this basic guitar track relatively simple and sparse to leave lots of room for everyone to contribute.

-Stuart
