Ok folks, you can pick up my vocal track (mixed together with basic guitar and midi) at 4Shared.com:
http://www.4shared.com/account/dir/3126 ... tml?rnd=75
Hope it serves a s a help for your contribution. I saved it as a wave file as the MP3 file sounded a bit wobbly (anyone know why... too much compression?).
I'd like to get a better quality recording done as my laptop mike can only handle so much... but this should serve for now.
Collaboration on Elton John's Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me
I posted a .wav file with a bass track added. It is about what I expect to play for the video, just not as polished B)
Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions for changes (as improvements are unlikely :S )
David
EDIT: I re-uploaded after reducing the volume on the bass. If you still think it's too loud, let me know and I'll fix it.

Spot on David! That's just perfect. Great job and thanks. I reckon the .wave file (separate) is already perfect for what we need. We just need a video of you playing your part so we can edit the visuals in but I think we can use the track you've already done.
So everyone else can use David's file (parked at 4shared) to work with.

I think I need to pull out of this due to technical illiteracy. I can't get 4Share to work on my mac - either by downloading the file or even trying to play it from the website. If any of you are mac users and know what I'm doing wrong let me know - otherwise I'm happy to sit in the stalls and watch the collaboration. It was fun last time. I'm sure I'll enjoy this one that way too.

Have fun.

Just a couple of thoughts after having a listen to whats on the 4shared area.
Firstly, would it make more sense for everyone to leave their individual contribution separately on 4 shared, rather than adding to someone elses? The reason I ask is that if you're downloading someones part then adding your own, and then saving it, isnt that the equivalent of what used to happen on tape 4 tracks...bouncing the tracks I believe its called, to get more than 4 tracks on?
What I'm getting at is that by bouncing the tracks we could be compromising the audio quality, the initial track will be recorded-thewn re-recorded then etc etc, whereas if we all put our individual parts on , then synch it all together, would it be better ( would it be possible?) Or by synching multiple parts together.
Secondly, maybe we should agree a format to record in, so when we all present our work on4shared, its in an agreed format, a clooection of wav, avi, mpeg files could be a nightmare to synch, and converting lots of files to another format wont be good for quality.
Finally, are we doing video for this, as I only see audio so far? Once agin, is there a preferred format?
Just wondering, as I'm working on the electric guitar part at the moment.

Heyjoe,
You are correct.
The combined track is intended only as a reference track for you to practice and play along to. I added the bass to this track for that reason only.
Your individual contribution should be solo--either a file with both video with audio of you playing or singing (most people will find this easier), or separate video and audio files.

I will be sending separate files because my video camera is PAL, and converting from PAL to NTSC changes the frame rate, which changes the audio timing slightly. So in my case, Andy will be able to convert the video and use it in the mix, but he should use the separate audio track for the correct timing. The video may be very slightly out of sync, but the audio should be spot on.
