Suzi I'm surprised that no one has picked this up. They are probably reluctant to tell you but I will......your guitar has shrunk!

Yes I am hilarious I know.

OK seriously, what a surprise. If there is a category for 'biggest surprise" you just won my vote. A little bird in Sydney town told me you had something up your sleeve but she gave nothing away. I'm glad, it was a nice surprise for sure.

I watched a very interesting documentary on the Uke last weekend, and here you are playing one. Pretty well too! Great performance, very engaging and sweet. Loved it. Bravo.

Tony- Well, that's what happens when you set the dryer for "high." A word to the warning for all my friends!

I'm glad that I surprised you with this. I don't think the uke is going to replace my guitar as my main musical focus any time soon, but it was a fun diversion. I may not play the uke well, but I have to say it was pretty exciting to be able to play a song through on a new instrument, however roughly, after just a day.

Wrench- Thank you for the kind words. Really glad you enjoyed!

Suzi

That was absolutely charming Suzi on many levels! Very pretty song and such a cute performance with the singing too. If that doesn't sell the Yuke to Emma, trade her in for a set of drums ;-). Wait til Bill hears that C#, his favourite note!

Chris- Thanks so much. You asked recently if I had anything planned, and I said I had something "sunny" in mind :)

This song is played in the key of C, so when I was transcribing the melody to try to learn it I got to the C# and thought, "Surely, not. I must be hearing this wrong" since C# isn't in the C scale. I played it over and over, but it was indeed a C#. It occurs a few times in the song. Maybe it's a signature of Hawaiian music? I have no idea! All I know was it was really hard to hit! So I apologize to Bill for bungling it so badly.

Suzy,
Very nice singing & playing. I also got an ukulele a few months ago and have looked at the TG ukulele lessons - I especially liked the one on the Iz medley of Rainbow/Wonderful world. Now I have 2 instruments (3, if I count the harmonicas) I can feel guilty for not practicing enough on.

Suzi,

What a FANTASTIC start to my day, seeing your video. What a perfect addition to this thread. Who knew there were cheery love songs?

That was truly delightful. Sunny, smiley, sweet sounding, beautifully sung, smooth perfect playing, great showmanship and a little cheeky; really gorgeous. It filled my heart with joy!

I'd love to see Eric's face when you sing this to him. Does he get all gruff and embarrassed or smile adoringly?

I hope Emma continues with her learning, it would be fabulous to see you play together. And I hope that will not be the last ukulele song we see you play.

I LOVED it!!

Shel

Jim- I spent a little time playing the Somewhere Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World medley on the uke, too, and I REALLY enjoyed it. Two great songs that sound great together. I'll make a confession- I also own a harmonica that I don't practice nearly enough. It's hard to find the time that you need to really dedicate to these instruments.

Michele- Well, you know I was really waiting to hear your reaction! I was hoping you'd be pleased, as the "owner" of this thread! And you're right- this is one of those rare creatures: the happy love song. Maybe you need to live in a tropical paradise to be able to write such things.

Suzi - congratulations.........on many levels!

Picking up an new musical instrument and getting it to the level at which you're comfortable posting a video - and doing so to this standard - in such a short space of time is a fine achievement. You looked very comfortable playing the uke and I'm sure you'll do a good job teaching Emma and making it fun for her. And I thought you sang it really well too. I went and listened to the lesson and that melody line seems to have plenty of possible pitfalls which I thought you coped with extremely well. I have to agree with Dennis in saying that this is your best singing performance to date and is a great example to us all of what can be achieved with a bit of hard work.

You should be very proud of yourself
