Hi suzi

I was some what distracted watching your video  and it was Tony's fault....

you see my normal habit of watching someone's video is to load it up and read the comments while loading, so I did this and came across Tony's miracle powers of observation and just cracked up

So i went back and watched your video and i just couldnt get it out of my mind and found myself laughing the whole time... NOT at the performance.. damn you Tony :P

So my normal appreciation of the video was altered some what... sorry.

I really enjoy the uke it does look like fun and its a instrument that i dont think people take seriously so they dont care how it is played... hang on maybe i should take it up then...

It was really enjoyable apart from said distractions B) and would love to see a duet from mum and daughter..is dad musical????

Great instrument transfer and especially great singing. Lately every post is a big jump in your musician progression. You look so happy and confortable singing and playing this new instrument.

A pleasure to watch

Scottish Stuart- Your comment put a big smile on my face. I have to admit, it was pretty thrilling to learn to play an entire song on a new instrument in such a short period of time. I fully recognize that my playing is rough- I know I'm no Israel Kamakawiwoʻole! Thank you, also, for your kind words about my singing. As I mentioned in one of my responses prior, I did find the melody to this song challenging. And singing, in general, is not my forte, but it's something I enjoy a lot and something I'm working on improving. So I was happy to hear that you and Dennis both thought that I had made some strides in that area since my last singing venture.

American Stuart- Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you liked it.

Brad- Well I hope Tony reads your comment! I'm sure it'll please him to know that his little joke was so well received! Glad to hear that you enjoyed the peformance despite the distractions. Oh, and if you've got some spare time on your hands, I'd be happy to introduce you, via something called a "shovel," to my good friend snow.

Marc,

You snuck in while I was replying. I'm really glad you enjoyed my video. I did have a fun time doing it! It was nice to do something completely different (that is to say, post a video that wasn't a really-difficult-for-me fingerpicking piece!) because it meant I could relax a bit and think more about making the performance fun to watch. Singing is something I struggle with, so I'm glad to hear you enjoyed how I sang in this one. It was also fun to tackle a Target song that no one else (at least to my knowledge!) has done.

Hi Suzi, this video is so charming that you've given me an ear-worm !

At first the voices inside my head were lazily singing "Peaarrrllly sheeellllzzz", and now they've begun "Tiiiinnnyyyyy Buuubblllzzz".

I think I should fight fire with fire, and listen to some ukulele by Stephin Merritt (Magnetic Fields)

That is, unless you decide to upload one of his songs ?

Thanks for sharing this, reminds me that I've been meaning to revisit my uke ... gotta change the strings first.

Pierre,

Thanks for watching and I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

Funny that you should mention earworm. Soon after I started learning this song, my daughter Emma, for some reason, started singing it as:

"Stranger danger!
Coming from the ocean.
Stranger danger!
Coming from the sea.
When I see all those little strangers
It really frightens me."

So don't feel so strange about the Tiny Bubbles :)

Maybe you can give me some hints on changing uke strings. This one still has the ones that it came with, which I've got a feeling are quite crummy. I bought a new pair of D'Addarrio strings to put on it, but I'm a little intimidated by it since it looks so different from my guitar!

I should look look on YT for a good Magnetic Fields song to play on uke. Thanks for the recommendation!

Suzi, I have never changed the strings on a ukulele. I bought some new strings last summer and only had a close look at them in the fall.

I think they are inferior to the worn strings I presently have, because the new "C" string (the fat one) is only nylon and the corresponding worn string on the uke is nylon with a metal winding over it, like a guitar string. So I haven't got around to replacing them.

Thanks all the same, Pierre. I'm sure I can find something on YT.

Bravo Suzi that was great. It is great to hear a uke!. I had dug up George Harrisons Brainwashed over the weekend and he uses a uke on several songs, very refreshing despite the Wisconsin snow. (Atlanta had its share last week, I moved from Wisc. and Ohio to get away from it but it didn;t work)
Anyway I really enjoyed this!'
