I'm in the Coast Guard Auxillary here in Hawaii and we were just put on Alert. An 8.9 Earthquake near Japan has generated a tsunami and Hawaii and New Zealand are in the path.
It never rains 'eh Chas?

Can you imagine what an 8.9 would do if it happened on land and not under the ocean? There would be nothing left standing. Hope you all ride this out ok.
Latest info from Wake Island reports a 1 foot wave. However, it may not be correct because the measuring devices at Wake Is are not designed for Tsunami measurements. But its still a very good indicator. It gives us hope that Oz and New Z will get almost nothing.
This is what our papers say:
"The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre says there is no tsunami threat to Australia following the Japanese earthquake, despite a US warning to the contrary.
Earlier today, the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) extended its warning to cover most Pacific countries including Australia, Indonesia and as far away as Chile".
Regardless of what happens in Australia, obviously we don't want to see any injury or destruction ANYWHERE. Mother nature has been pretty angry lately.

We are even receiving warnings here in Ventura. I hope you guys remain safe out there Andy. Scary stuff. 8.9 is massive. Several aftershocks of 6 or more as well. This Pacific Rim is a very active spot.
