How do you go about incorporating artificial harmonics into an arrangement without sounding trite?

Neil,

I know this is a peculiar question and probably hard to answer. But beyond trial and error, I was wondering if there
was a trick for involving artificial harmonics into an arrangement without making it sound like a 7frett-12fret exercise.

I am interested in learning how to combine them with open and fretted notes. Do you think of the harmonics as
substitutions of the regular tonalities at just a higher register as you are composing? I have noticed you use them in
your compositions from time to time...

Is there a way to figure out harmonics all over the fretboard for virtually any note?

(I have plenty of other stuff outside of the enigmatic world of harmonics to keep me busy but I just
love those harp-like tones and was wondering how to go about understanding them better.)

Thanks
Cori

**EDIT: I meant to put this out there for general feedback from anybody in the forum, too...If anybody out there
has any expertise with harmonics I would love to pick your brains!

Cori I sure hope you get an answer to this tough question but I just want to congratulate you on an awesome thread title! (without meaning to sound trite)

I always think artificial harmonics sound trite, so I've repudiated them (admission- I don't even know what artificial harmonics are).

Suzi, I hope I'm not betraying a confidence here. I remember you telling me that your doctor advised you to stay away from artificial harmonics.

Artificial harmonics are banned aren't they? Sure they can make you big and strong but they can shrink your testes and give you heart problems.

And really bad acne!! That's the only reason I avoid them.

I think this one went over my head (which happens with some regularity) But, perhaps we should heed the advice of the medical community and avoid artificial harmonics, altogether. lol!

You folks are really turning me around here....I've gotta re-think this whole thing! I don't want to have to look into buying acne solutions from some info-commercial. There happens to be a history of heart problems in the fam. And, I sure don't need my testes to shrink up...YIKES!!!! (I'll just go on being a weakling, I guess.)

Cori- I hope you didn't mind your thread getting minorly hijacked with our silliness. I'm sure your question warrants a serious answer- I just know that I can't give it to you!

Nah!! No worries... Let the silliness rain down...It is good fun. I just didn't get the gag until about the the third comment came back (I'm just a little slow I suppose. lol!) Besides I find harmonics sorta mysterious and a bit over my head, and that's why I am asking I guess... I try to not take anything I say too awful serious. (And, I try to leave open the possibility I could be full of crap at any given time. lol!)
