Thanks alot Suzi!!! Very, very nice of you to say! Yeah, sorry about the chipmunk thing. It does sound pretty chipmunk-y doesn't it? I am a Mc-goober. I like to pretend I'm Tommy Emmanuel on helium. (It is true I do want to to be able to play it a little faster maybe, but not warp speed fast like that...and without the squeaks. lol)

Thanks Suzi!!! You don't give yourself enough credit. I am quite sure u could could come up with some stuff on the guitar. Only one way to find out, right?

ABRUPT SUBJECT CHANGE: You and Stu got any more Decemberists in the works? That was AWESOME!

Thanks again, Suzi!

I think Hydroman might have covered the rest of the Decemberists' oeuvre for us :) Though, who knows. Maybe we'll take a crack at The Infanta one day. Hehe

I admire your ability to play so fast, and so cleanly. Maybe some day I'll get there. And, you're right. I should TRY to compose something. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Catchy tune there Cori … I am impressed. It looks pretty complex as well. I wasn’t thinking it sounded so slow until then end when you demonstrated your goal. I got a kick out of that … very imaginative!
I wish I had the patience and the talent to compose something. Whenever I noodle-around unfocused it ends up sounding like some other song I know.
Keep up the good work … I’d love to hear it when you’re happy with it.

Thanks Chas, extra nice to get compliments from experienced players that also happen to be TG veterans. So I was wondering if I could ask a favor.
I was wondering if I get you to help out on behalf of Daryl's improv thread. Do you think it would be at all possible to get you Clapton & Bear to come out of seclusion and put up a post over in the improv thread? We (I) would really like to see that thing take off. I know a blues based player like you would eat a progression like that for breakfast!
It is just the old 1950s style progression C Am F G7 for a whopping minute and a half. If we could get any of you guys...they would start coming out of the woodwork then. Well, think it over won't you...

Thanks Again & Thanks in advance if you decide to post.

Well, geez Ken thanks. You're just full of nice compliments aren't ya? I sure appreciate it!! I think it is a decent start but it needs to build a little more and go into something else a little more uptempo.(like in some prog rock song that is over my head lol!) Also everything revolves around D. And that is okay but is just begging to go into something else. (I'm glad you like my 5th grade humor too.)

b.t.w. So what if your stuff is derivative. Everything is, if you really think about it. I'd love to see you give it a go.

Cori,

That was really lovely. Pretty and a little sad at the same time. I loved the slow version. I'm sure it will sound great, but a little different, when you get it to a speed you're happy with too. The harmonics are a really nice addition.

Anyone who writes their own stuff, good stuff like this, is a champion in my books. Huge kudos to you! A truck load of pizza points.

Very cool.

Wow, see, you háve been busy nowadays! ;)

You're doing such a very nice job on this! I, like others here, do like the slow version. Personally I wouldn't speed it up, since to me it fits the mood, wich is you playing and doing so for your dad..

I also very much admire your ability to come up with ideas and to actually show them to others.....it's inspirational, although I don't think that I would have the guts to do something with it, thumbs up for you my friend!

Thanks Ladies!!!

Michele, I am glad you like!! And you are kinda the authority on sad/melon collie numbers. I was sorta being a goofball with that squeaky chipmunk stuff @ the end. (as Suzi calls it) (My humor is a little out there.doh) I had thought I would like to speed it up at least a little. But I think the consensus is that is okay where it as at. Maybe will just slowly build up the intensity later on... with section that goes into something else slightly different. Glad you thought the harmonics worked. I couldn't tell if I liked it or it just sounded like an afterthought. So good, the harmonics were kind of a goal. And I get pizza points, so that is a win-win!!

Vanessa I'm glad you liked it, as well. I wasn't 100% sure it really worked or not. But the validation is sure nice!! And, yeah I have some time right now for summer break...so I've been pretty much pitching a tent in front of the computer the last couple of weeks. lol. I am like an addicted fiend! It is ridiculous.Making up for all the practice time I missed out on during the school year I 'spose. b.t.w. Gosh darn it.. it sure good to see you back here!

** Also I would like to make a hard sell for the Daryl's improvisation 101 thread. We need some help...and you both got abilities out the wazoo. So how 'bout it?
It is only a minute and a half; and it is a real simple progression. Common ya know ya want to...

In another thread about favorite artists of this millennium, I referred to Eleni Mandell and this song. When Cori made the "Busking Love Songs" thread bubble to the top in the last couple of days, I thought this would be a good addition, too. I started learning this about 24 hours ago. Last night, I found lyrics somewhere in the Internet cloud and verified them. This morning, I got up early, worked out the music, and edited and printed my cheat sheets before starting on business calls. During lunch and other breaks, I have worked it into what's posted here. The point is, if I could do that in a day, it's got to be a simple song.

I apologize for being glued to the lyric sheet and the weak vocals, but I just haven't had enough time to commit the words to memory. Eleni usually has a couple of songs that I like right away on each album. A few more take a little bit of time for me to warm up to, and the rest . . . . I never quite get comfortable with them. This is one that I have warmed up to although someone will probably need to hold a flashlight to the lyric sheet if I do it at a campfire.

The reason that the words are so hard for me to retain is that they are so creative and quirky. They aren't very predictable and I don't expect them to spin in the directions that they travel. But that's what I like about them. Still, progress is being made . . . . . . this morning, I could just barely hum the melody. Each time I do it, it gets easier.

This was "Take 2". "Take 1" blew up on me, and, in "Take 3", I had a really bad brain lock at the beginning of the first chorus.

Hope you enjoy this one.
