Busking 3 or 4 Chord Songs
Stuart (though perhaps in this context, calling you "Reaver" would be more appropriate!),
Shiny!!! As a fellow "Brown Coat," I was very excited to see your version of The Ballad of Serenity and gorram it, I think you did a bang-up job! I loved the intro and the little solo you put in before the last verse. Your introductory paragraph made me laugh too. Are you some kind of Chia pet, being able to grow a beard in 15 minutes? Regardless, I think the beard suits you, so I hope you decide to keep it for a bit longer.

I'm smiling BIG time. But, what no space cowboy outfit? Captain Renalds isn't using his at the moment...maybe he'll lend it to you when it's not Halloween. Well it's times like this that I wish I knew a little Mandarin... joyful cursing. %#*^>£!@&$? - I'd add Mandarin characters for effect but I might call your dog something terrible.
Great addition. (Don't worry about Daryl if he comes along later and says that 5 is not less than 4...
) Beautifully played and sung, I love the hammer ons and runs in this.
Fire Fly has got some great music in it. I love the Country, Celtic, Asian fusion, and other influences feel; not that all of those characteristics are in this song.
You ARE a very funny and sweet man. You definitely make me smile...when your posts aren't making me all teary.
Thanks for the dedication.
LOVED IT! Shiny INDEED!!!

Dennis; Nice work on the Elvis number. For a while there I was getting worried for the green vase! Glad to see it was still intact at the end.
So - inspired by Michele's space cowboy references, this sprang to mind. And it had a few things going for it;
1. It uses all 5 open major chords
2. The melody line contains (though not consecutively) 4 notes each separated by a semitone; B, C, Db and D. This seemed, to me anyway, an interesting bit of theory - and makes adding a harp solo a little out of my league!
3. It's one of the few songs not yet posted by shargram.
I already pinched one of Dennis's ideas and simply recorded it on my laptop. I'll now pinch another;
10:00 Re-arranged furniture to make house look less messy
10:15 Started recording song
10:30 Threw guitar in the corner and went to make tea
10:45 Started recording song
11:00 Threw guitar in the corner and went to make coffee
11:15 Started recording song
11:30 Finally! A take I was happy with! Hadn't started recording..........
11:31 Threw guitar in the corner and opened a beer
11:45 Started recording song
12:00 Yes - another success........and this time time I WAS recording
12:05 Watched play back - didn't like how I looked. Decided I should grow a beard.
12:15 Grew a beard.
12:20 Finally - the finished video has been recorded.

Hey Tom. I hope the arm is starting to feel better. Not being able to play must REALLY suck on top of what you're already going through. This thread isn't going away, so it will be here when you're ready to add something. I hope you have a speedie recovery. Luckily there's good material to keep you entertained here.michelew wrote:Hi Michele, glad you liked the videos. I would love to be able to participate on this thread, I am ltching to do so, but since my bicep ligament rupture and subsequent operation seven weeks ago, I have hardly been able to lift my guitar never mind play it. I am about half way through my recovery, I have tried to play over the last few weeks, but I get to the point where the pain stops me. I am hoping within the next two months that I am back fully fit and I will be up for putting in a video. :cheer: Until then I will sit frustrated on the sidelines
Tom - thanks. Hey we've been seeing some great editing work from you pulling together other people's performances, how about working on a three chord song of your own?![]()
This is a great thread by the way.![]()

and it stoned me by Van Morrison
5 chords actually G,C,D,Am,Em
I always liked this song, although the song that followed it on the album was a bit more popular...
PLEASE NOTE: If video was recently uploaded it will not work yet. YouTube will need a little more time to get the video ready. Please check back again soon.

Thanks, sorry to get to respond to this so late. I'm glad you enjoyed it. There are other great Steve Miller Band numbers that you could throw up here. And yes I love my guitar collection too. I'm a lucky woman.

Very nice Jim. Thanks for the contribution! BTW VERY smooth chord changes from C to G and from Em to G. You are definitely making good progress. Once suggestion based on a recent fly on the wall.....try holding your pick a little less firmly to soften the strumming.

It's great to see something from you in this thread. Your fingers sure are moving smoothly between those chords. Edit (smoothly MUST be the word - I swear I was writing this at the same time as Daryl)
It was like you were channeling Dylan, Dylan covering Morrison. Cool.
Thanks

Since some of us here are obviously number challenged maybe the TGmice can rename this thread "Busking 3 or 4 or 5 Chord Songs". Anyway, I'm not going to say anything
I'm just going to enjoy the performances.
Can 5 ever be 4?? Only at TG! :woohoo:Great addition. (Don't worry about Daryl if he comes along later and says that 5 is not less than 4...) Beautifully played and sung, I love the hammer ons and runs in this.
