Well......hmmm....still pondering that one.....I really really dig Acda&deMunnik (or Clouseau, well some of their songs), but one of my favorites is a 5-chords song, the rest is more than that and I think the title of this thread was changed back to 3/4 chords.....but what is a particular dutch folksong anyway?

After the posting last week of the Donovan song by Chris and the comment about protest songs that are still relevant today, I thought I would try one. It has 3 chords, A, D, E and is a bit monotonous :)

The song is called Deportee - Plane Wreck at Los Gatos; lyrics by Woodie Guthrie, music by Martin Hoffman

Sometimes picking up a guitar and singing a song can be a political statement!

Ness,

So what you're telling us is that pretty much all U2 songs can be played with D,A,E and F#m?!

That was SOOOOO great!! You know how much I love "All I Want is You," but when you segued into Angel of Harlem I burst out laughing. Then "Still Haven't Found!" Just great. That was such an incredibly fun medley and, yes, I will now be adding both Angel of Harlem and SHF to my repertoire, thanks to your mini-tutorial.

Fabulous job!

AWhhhhhh! The souvenir "Illinois" MUG...I see you're putting it to good use! Great!! LOL! LOL!!!!
(You're Sweet Vanessa!!  ) :) :) Good memories...

Well, now if I can compose myself & focus after your AMAZINGLY AWESOME BLITZKRIEG OF IRISH SUPER-GROUP MEDLEY, WOW-IE, WOW, WOW...Where to even start??? Geez, Louise!

I enjoyed every split single, nano-second of that! WE ALL KNOW YOU ARE GOOD, BUT THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS!!
Oh my gosh, you were so in a zone on this...It is ten minutes later I and can still barely believe what I witnessed!!

Your vocals were just OUT OF THIS WORLD, KILLER GOOD! Maybe your best...How you segued in and out of each song
into the next. I loved it!!

SPEECHLESS, Pretty much here. (That doesn't happen very much with me.) Thanks So much VANESSA!!

I might have to come back to this post, later almost too much awesomeness to take in one setting....

I miss you & love U2! ( Cheesy Double-Meaning intended!)

OH MY GOD!!!!! Nessa you ARE the bomb!!! ..."maaaaybe you might like it!" ... Maybe :). Maybe the sun might rise tomorrow, maybe the tide will go in and out, maybe the Earth will keep revolving around its axis.

DAMN you're good woman! Like it! Ha!! Way to take a few chords and turn them into a performance masterpiece. I feel the need to fill up this page and more with raving about how good this is. You've just illustrated everything I was talking about in my performance ramble and absolutely delivered EVERYHING I was talking about in my first thread about playing simple songs. Simple or not, they are not just simple songs in your hands, they are $@@£€%¥#@$$..... (words, I can't find the right words) ... They are ...expressions of passion and fun and ... Well from the heart.

This was an ABSOLUTE treat. THANK YOU!! You are SUCH a gem, such an inspiration, such an amazing musician.

...gush, gush, gush.... At infinitum. ... I'll stop this here...I think you probably get the picture.

You can take it as read that I liked it. I don't think I'll be able to fully express how much I loved this. :) B) :P :) :) :)

Jim,
I was not familiar with this Woody Guthrie tune.(I'm sure the Los Gatos in the title makes it a Hogan family favorite.)
I thought your Vocals were quite good!! I enjoyed this & I'd like to hear you do more Woody tunes. One suggestion I would make, since you're not miked is to maybe play a little bit lighter on the strings...for the simple fact that I missed lyrics & narration here and there. But no big deal! Cool to see you put up some Woody stuff.

There is an iconic picture of him, that I am sure you are familiar with...were he has the words: "This Machine Kills Fascists" hand
painted on his guitar. I love that picture of him!! So cool!!

P.S. Have you ever heard an album called Mermaid Avenue? It is comprised of a group of songs that woody never got the chance
to record. There are bushels of songs that nobody has ever heard. Songs about Stalin and all kinds of stuff all over the map.
Anyways, this album has some of the best ones that Woody never got to. The album is done by Billy Bragg & Wilco. I think it
is the best thing Wilco ever did...and I like Wilco a lot Every song on the album is just great INMHO. But "Ingrid Bergman" &
"Way Over Yonder in A Minor Key" are stand-outs and so very Woody!

The umpire has spoken. :) a 10 it is!!! Actually surely there is something better than 10/10 that can be awarded here. :) a 10 doesn't cut it. Hmmm... I'll need to ponder that while I'm rewatching it a gazillion times.

So good! ...[.insert super, super, super long rave here]
