Thank you for the listen to what is obviously a labour of love with this song, Chris.

I'm most impressed with how evenly all of the tracks are mixed.
Sounds most excellent wearing headphones!!

Congrats!

Many thanks Kev and Al. I use headphones to listen to posted videos too, much better sound and you hear the subtleties better.
I dont like the way the soubd gets degraded when uploading but at least we can upload.
Tom has given me lots of useful feed back on the mixing which I will be applying.
Thanks for listening in folks?

Hi Chris, definitely a masterpiece (I used head phone, iot is worth it) . The voice arrangements are spectacular (is this Allie I hear with the tut tut tut and the aah aah ?) It is very well mixed and your singing is even a step up above the regular post you did (must be the love for the song). Good strumming as well, were you signing and playing or did you record both separately.?

It will be a great video.

Hi Marc (just answered you on Tony's thread as you were writing this). Many thanks for stopping by and for your kind comments. I wish I could get Ale near a microphone, loved to do so many songs!
Inspired by Dennis' backing harmonies on Stuart's song (Day after day), I 've been trying to add those kind of voices so its all me. To be honest, I'd rather be singing this with someone else or with a number of people (there is nothing quite like getting multiple voices humming together... as we found in Canada on Night and Day) but I'm the only one who turns up to recording sessions :-). So I'm piecing together this one slowly so all the tracks are separate although I am used to playing and singing this one at the same time. I have recorded both guitars doing the same thing (the nylon adds some bass and the 12 string some jangle) and then its layers of vocals. I used the original MB track to keep myself in time and that's where I hear that I am not quite accurate in the rhythm... they are doing something more complex and subtle than I am... but I don't know what exactly. I am mostly in time but not always.

Edit: Well after I exported the mixdown last night but before I saved the session, my laptop crashed, so although I have that mix, I lost the last 90 minutes of my work so I'll have to do some re-construction and see if I can replicate a couple of the voicings... which is a shame... but good practice!

Chris,

This is really a terrific effort on your part. I love your guitar work, your main vocal, and your background vocals. They all work really well together. Really the only thing I would suggest is to turn down the reverb on your guitar. Hard strumming with reverb tends to sound a little muddy.

By the way, I'm stunned. Never in a million years would I have guessed that The Four Tops covered a song by the Moodies. Go figure.

Many thanks for listening and commenting Dennis and Dermot. Much appreciated.

Good point about the muddy guitar Dennis... that will be the nylon string... not the best to strum... I put the reverb on after as it seemed so dead, then added the 12 to brighten things up a bit. SO far, no one has said the strumming was crap so I guess its ok to use that pattern. No keyboards in there Dermot... but isn't it funny what we hear in a song sometimes, I have found myself hearing stuff that's not there and wondering why.

I really liked the four tops version (below) and I just discovered a version with Justin Hayward singing lead in stead of Mike Pinder... must say, I like Mike's version with Justin's backing vocals better.

I was going to ask you if that was Mike Pinder or John Lodge singing lead. Didn't sound like Justin.

Above is the one where Justin is singing lead... i remember also having heard that at some point but Mike Pinder is just great on this one... as he is on Melancholy Man.
