Jim, that was pretty nice, glad you made this contribution, hope you and your girl sort things out :)

This is fun, pass the uke around ! (don't Bogart that uke, my friend) ...

Jim,

Wow, this brings back some memories for me because my Dad used to sing this song in his barbershop quartet when I was around 10. Maybe that was why he had that uke sitting around the house back then anyway. If you do a search for the title of this song along with barbershop you'll find that it is still popular today. Thanks for posting!

Jim,

Thanks so much for coming to the party with such a GREAT contribution. You played it so sweetly, you look like you've been knocking out a few songs on that cute Uke for a while.

BTW - I think our Ukuleles might be siblings.

Not only did you play it nicely, but you passed down your experince too by showing us HOW to play it; very cool. I'll be watching this a few times to get the progression down. Thanks for that especially.

I'm sorry to say that I haven't seen your girl unless she's shrunk by a couple of inches, ... and then ... If I have seen her... And I'm not saying it's her now... Well I'm sorry to tell you that you need to look further afield... And we might just need to set up a serenading competition. :)

You've put a big smile on my face. Thanks for being so sporting and rising to the challenge with this classic song.

BTW - check out this thread if you haven't already. There is a little inspiration in there for you. Dylan may never have sounded better, on the ukulele that is.

You're a champion. Very cool. :) :) :);) :).

Smiling still

Thanks, Jim! I liked the music lesson/intro. In about 5 seconds you taught all of the uke players on the site how to play that song, and that is totally cool. For a second I thought you were singing about me! "5 foot 2 (yep), eyes of blue (also true), turned up nose (uh...), turned down hose (!!! Are those really the lyrics?)." :)

Ah Jim, that was so sweet and nice! :cheer:

Michele - Thanks for starting this thread and for inviting me to your little ukulele party. I'll be back for more. I really enjoyed your rendition of Dream a Little Dream. Thanks for all of the praise of mine, but I think you are already more accomplished on the uke. Thanks for the pointer to the thread of ukulele covers. I was off the net last week and missed that thread. I'll be working on Don't Think Twice, It's Alright.

Pierre - fellow ukulele party-crasher, thanks for the comment and, I enjoyed that Monty Python song a lot - that's perfect for the ukulele!

Suzi - yes, those are the real lyrics, although I screwed them up in a few places - adding an extra syllable here and there and throwing off the timing a bit. I loved your Pearly Shells and as another ukulele player, I certainly would have dedicated the song to you had I known you were 5 foot 2, eyes of blue :)

Vanessa, Daryl, Willem, Cori - thanks for the comments

And Scott & BobR -I'm glad that this song brings back fond memories of parents singing this song.

As I mentioned in the intro, I started playing the ukulele at my local senior center. I am in my 50s, but most of the ukulele players there are quite a bit older. I was attending the ukulele sessions once a week for a few months. I don't know how many times someone would say, "You probably remember this song from your senior prom", and play some old song I had never heard before. I was sitting there, thinking "Dude! I wasn't even born yet when you were at your senior prom." There was definitely a generation gap with the music they liked. So, I quit attending the senior center ukulele group and switched to a Hawaiian ukulele workshop. I'll try a Hawaiian song next time I come to the party.

Here are some videos from an ukulele workshop Sunday in Hayward CA. Our student band performed 3 songs as part of the festival, then we had an outdoors workshop to learn 3 songs from Maui.

Hi Jim, it seems like you guys had a good time. Are you standing up with a black sweater, a white cap and sunglasses?

Hi Marc,

Yes, that's me standing in the black sweater and sunglasses. I am visible in the still frame of part 2. And I noticed in the first video, while 90% of the folks are doing a pretty fast strum, I am doing the wrong strum. The video never lies :) It was a lot of fun as passersby joined into our workshop. And it is a lot of fun learning these Hawaiian songs.

Jim
