lol lol lol, arrrrrr were's the rum.Hi Vanessa.
I'm so glad you showed up. I was wondering where you were. Yes. We need any and everything you have to offer. We're a motley crew, and Michelle is missing some of her body parts thanks to Tom's keen suggestions, but we're moping the deck and getting ready to set sail.
I'm hoping other TG members join in on a song writing adventure too. Neil has put out some great suggestions on how to get started. Just jump in. The water is fine. Whoa, is that a shark. Nah.

Being in love can involve such a mix of emotions. It's absolutely true. Don't even get me started on hormones!Hi Michelle
You are so right. That chorus took the mood of the song from happy endings to hopeless in one fell swoop. It must be that fine line between love and disaster. Odds are that those two emotions work in the same department and share of few of the same brain cells. Then throw a few hormones in the mix. Yikes. :side: Maybe I just need to stick to humor. It's a lot easier to just make fun of everything.
I'm working on chord progressions right now. Hope everyone joins in. It's a good way for all of us to improve our guitar skills.

Nessa on the drums yeeeeeeehhh! WOO HOO!!! I hoped you'd get enthused to join in.
Yep I've already offered my EXTENSIVE bass playing experience. B)
:woohoo:
So as long as Sandy doesn't mind lots of roots it will all be COOL! Good thing Tony's not here to raise an eyebrow and smirk at the "lot of roots" comment. It means something else entirely here. But, there's already an abundance of Aussie cultural diversity in this thread.
Sounds like we're cooking with gas. Can't wait to hear your progression Sandy. Very exciting.

Awesome work gals and guy!!! :cheer:
Gosh how you turned another thread upside down   !
Just dropping to say, if you need drums for the final recording, i'll be happy to provide one!I'd say that there are enough guitarplayers available right?!
Bassplayer too, right Shel?

Hi y’all,
I woke up this morning with lines for a pirate song in my head. So I thought it would be fun to jot them down and post it for a few laughs.
Shawn Colvin reckons that a big part of song writing is turning up and doing something. For some reason my brain makes up melodies, bass lines and lyrics rather than progressions per se (that’s why it works best when I work with someone who complements that). Well actually the melody and bass are pretty similar here. If I was going to work on it more, I’d fill it out and of course and make the lines different. Oh and of course I’d redo the singing with some emotion and piratey guts (especially the end).
I've got a lot to learn about song writing so I'm keenly watching Neil's song writing wisdom.
So here is a song sketch, just for laughs and to celebrate Sandy kicking off her song writing adventure. Oh and I didn't say it was good or pretty, just silly.

Tom, verse 1 is for you mate, I've left it blank. I've written the gist of what it probably needs to convey below. And if anyone else is inspired to add to this, a verse a track, go for it.
Or if it inspires you to do something else piratey then don't let anything stop you there either.
We're Pirates
Intro
We're pirates, we're pirates, we're pirate yeh!
Chorus 1
We're pirates, we're rollin' on the high Cs of life
We're pirates, we're up for a joke or a fight
We're pirates, we're bound to get into strife. Yeh!
Verse 1
[why are we pirates - back story - might need to Tom to write this one
]
[verse about jumping onto forum posts and taking them in new directions]
[being mischievous and joking around]
[any excuse to get a song started]
Verse 2
Sandy has skills, she's handy with blades
Many a pirate's amputation she's made
If you're not tough .... and menac-ing
She'll help you with your imag-ing
You might need to offer a leg or an eye
But then you'll be able to sing with pride
We're pirates, we're pirates, we're pirates. Yeh!
Chorus 2
We're pirates, we're having the time of our lives
We're pirates, we're up for a joke or a fight
We're pirates, join in or run for your life Yeh!
Verse 3
Sandy is writing a song it's true
The lyrics keep changing and the story does too
It's great to watch, it's poetry in motion
Now's it's about love and devotion
Tom wants to know a bit of back story
I suspect it's a little bit gory,
You might even say bloody hell mate
'Cause we're pirates, we're pirates, we're pirates Yeh!
Verse 4
Ness is on the drums, she's got the groove
Shel's on the bass, she's keepin' it cool
Sandy and a Tom are pickin' and a strummin'
Willem's on the uke and he's a humming
Who'll be next to lend a hand?
Come and join our pirate band
We're pirates, we're pirates, we're pirate yeh!
Chorus 3
We're Pirates, we love to sing all night
We're pirates, we're up for a joke or a fight
We're pirates, we're writing songs - that's RIGHT!
Yeh!
Verse 5
If you want to start a thread or two
Beware of the pirates they're a menacing group
You never know how they're gunna respond
With a bloody hell or with a song
If you're not up to fight,
I might be wrong but I reckon I'm right
You'll want to join with us and sing along
Be a pirate, be a pirate, be a pirates yeh
Outro
We're pirates, we're pirates, we're pirate yeh!
We're pirates, we're pirates, we're pirate aaahhhhhrrrryeh!
Other material that could be put into the verses
You'll need a funny hat and a growlly voice
After that dress code's your choice
Don't have a parrot, then a poodle will do,
Don't have a cutlas, then a plunger will too,

Hi guys
All of this song writing is a bit of a workout. Nothing like having to play the same thing over and over a billion times, with little variations on a theme. That'll get your fingertips throbbing. SHEESH. Now I know what Neil's up to, he just wants us to practice our guitar. And then when you have to video what you just did so you don't forget the whole thing, it's another billion times before you get one good take. Wow, I'm turning into a total whiner. :side:

Michele, BLOODY Fantastic!
Sandy, Yep, we end up playing the bloody same thing a bloody bazillion times before we get it properly on a bloody video. Welcome to the club! But working on a video for a bloody upload only makes one a bloody better player! I'm looking forward to your upload.

I love it Michelle.
you're a bloody good song writer girl. I'm working on the music. I'm going to have to get into a pirate frame of mind though if I want to get this right. It looks like 4/4 time, with syncopation to capture the correct rhythm. Of course what do I know, I'm just a bloody pirate. (with some throbbing fingers).
I think that calls for an amputation mate. Hummmmmm Of course that could put a slight damper on the finger pickin front. Let me think.
